Bay Area Electric Railroad Association - Western Railway Museum - The mission of the Bay Area Electric Railroad Association is to preserve the regional heritage of electric railway transportation as a living resource for the benefit of the present and future generations. The Western Railway Museum operates 22 miles of former Sacramento Northern Railway trackage. Operates streetcars, interurbans and diesels.

California State Railroad Museum - The California State Railroad Museum is the largest and finest interpretive railroad museum in North America and is the most visited in the world. The Railroad Museum offers a stunning and unusual setting for your event or party and is one of Sacramento's most popular rental sites.

Market Street Railway - San Francisco is home to the most successful operation of historic rail transit in the world: the unique cable car system, and now the wildly popular "F-line" historic trolleys. San Francisco's Municipal Railway operates the historic transit lines with lots of support from our non-profit organization, Market Street Railway.

The Petaluma Trolley Living History Railway Museum - The Petaluma and Santa Rosa Railroad (P & S R) was an electric railroad with small, Victorian era passenger coaches. The P & S R provided overnight freight and daytime passenger service between San Francisco, Petaluma, Denman, Liberty, Roblar, Two Rock, Hessel, Sebastopol, Graton, Forestville and Santa Rosa.

Train Town - "The Most Well Developed Scale Railroad In The Americas" Train Town is a 16" gauge steam railroad located on 10 acres with one and a quarter miles of track with five bridges and trestles. There are two tunnels, one 140 feet and one 40 feet long.

Local (to me) Model Railroad Clubs-

Golden State Model Railroad Museum - 10,000 square feet of N, HO and O scale model railroads located in Point Richmond, California, just north of San Francisco. Our goals are to provide education to adults and children interested in model railroading, prototype railroad history and operations.

The Golden Gate Model Railroad Club - Our layout is the result of nearly forty years' effort to create a railroad in miniature with the communities it serves and combined with engineering and geographical features found on railroads in California. We have snowsheds on the high mountain line, various types of bridges spanning canyons on the Mountain Division and a narrow guage line. Our layout is HO scale and is contained in a room measuring 57 feet long by 38 feet wide. The mainline is about 600 feet long (nearly 10 scale miles), with an additional 200 feet or so of sidings and passing tracks.

Web Sites of Live Steam or Real Steam Clubs-

The Golden Gate Live Steamers - The Golden Gate Live Steamers operate a track system in Tilden Park, Berkeley. Tracks accommodate four gauges: 2-1/2", 3-1/2", 4-3/4" and 7-1/2" inch. The scales are 1/2, 3/4, 1 and 1 1/2 inches to the foot, but various other scales are used by those building narrow gauge locomotives.

The Golden Gate Railroad Museum - The Golden Gate Railroad Museum (GGRM) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of steam and passenger railroad equipment, and the interpretation of local railroad history.

Redwood Valley Railway - The Redwood Valley Railway is a 5 inch scale, 15 inch gauge steam powered railroad based on the narrow gauge railroads of the late 1800s. We are located in Berkeley California's Tilden park at the top of Gizzley Peak Blvd.

Magazines and Publishers-

Finescale Railroader - is renowned for stunning photography as well as for unsurpassed coverage of realistic scale model building, superior layouts and dioramas, and prototype plans and articles.

Model Railroader Magazine - A good site with the latest stuff to be found in the magazine.

Signature Press - Signature Press has the purpose of publishing high-quality books on the topics of railroads and Western history. It is a successor and enlargement of Central Valley Railroad Publications, and has acquired rights to more than fifty former titles of Howell-North, Darwin and Superior railroad books.

The Narrow Gauge & Shortline Gazette - is packed with how-to articles and features of interest to model railroaders. High quality photographs accompany feature articles of model railroad layouts each month.

John Allen's Gorre & Daphetid Railroad - A Reminiscence - A website with an outstanding collection of photos and information about one of the most influential model railroaders of all time. web sites.

NMRA on the Web - The people who make sure everybody's couplers are the right height! (and other essential standards). They probably have the best lists of model and prototype railroad web sites.

North American Steam Locomotive Information - Excellent information about where surviving locomotives may be found.

The Northwestern Pacific Railroad Historical Society, Inc. - Offers historians of railroads in California's Redwood Empire access to n database of more than 5000 photographs, engineering drawings, maps, oral histories and documents about the historic railroads in the Redwood Empire.

Redwood Empire Division of the Pacific Coast Region of the NMRA - includes the Counties of Marin, Sonoma, Napa, Solano, Lake, Mendocino, Humboldt, and Del Norte in the State of California.

Webville and Hypertext Railroad- a site for the archiving of historical and informational documents and binaries concerning Railroads, Railfanning and Model Railroading.

Narrow Gauge - these aren't the only narrow-gauge sites around but these are the ones I use and visit regularly.

The Diamond Springs & Western RR Co.- Good HOn3 oriented site. Host of the HOn3 mail list archive.

Mark Evans' Narrow Gauge Circle - Provides lots of interesting history, photos and modeling information. Emphasis is on those railroads in the south western part of Colorado.

Slim Rails - Together with da Trains and Nn3 Home make up Rick Blanchard's excellent contribution to the WWW of Train sites.

The Rheilffordd Ffestinog Railway - One of the narrowest (1' 11-1/2") and the certainly the oldest narrow gauge railway. A must-see site about the world's first narrow gauge railway. This Welsh railway started the narrow gauge craze which swept America and the world in the 1870's.

Australian Narrow Gauge Web-Exhibition Gallery - This site is dedicated to showcasing some of the finest Narrow Gauge layouts produced by Australian modellers. Some of these layouts are personal, home layouts and are rarely seen by the general public; others may be more well known on the exhibition scene, but they all share one thing in common - fine modelling in narrow gauge.

Talyllyn Railway Web Pages - The Talyllyn Railway was opened in 1865 and runs inland from Tywyn on the Mid Wales Coast to Nant Gwernol.

Welsh Highland Railway - The Welsh Highland Railway was formed by the linking of two much earlier railways, The North Wales Narrow Gauge Railways and the Croesor Tramway, by a new line between South Snowdon (Rhyd-Ddu) and Croesor Junction, some 8¼ miles in length.
